The Miner's Cabin will be open for visitors attending the Maple Festival in Franklinville. Located right in the village, this historical building was owned by Simeon B. Robbins, called the Simeon B. Robbins House, or The Miner's Cabin. Itis a three story, Queen Anne style wood frame dwelling built in 1895. The building features three towers. It is currently used as a museum and meeting space by the Ischua Valley Historical Society.
Special this year, they will also have the Norman Maffei prints that he donated to us as a fund raiser for sale to the public at the Maple Festival. If you would like to own a Maffei print, this will give you the opportunity to purchase on. Maffei was a resident artist of Franklinville, sketched and chronicled of some of World War II’s fiercest fighting – North Africa, Sicily and Italy, which have landed in the Library of Congress as well as in the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma City. He attended Franklinville’s Ten Broeck Academy but joined the Army before he would graduate. After the war, he returned to Franklinville and obtained his high school diploma. He then joined the Merchant Marine and traveled the world before returning home and honing his artistic skills at the Albright Art Institute of Buffalo.
Old photgraphs of the William Litzenberger Bakery will also be on display.
Miner's Cabin is located at 9 Pine St. in Franklinville, NY 14737.
