For over 40 years the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum has showcased both permanent and temporary exhibits that introduce visitors to the culture and history of the Onöndowa’ga:’ and Hodinöhšyönih, including longhouse and clan animal exhibits. The museum is currently located at 814 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY 14779, but the Museum is working on building a new home! The Museum is closed from mid-June to August so staff can move and prepare for the Grand Opening!
The Seneca Nation Gwë:dé Cultural Center is hosting a grand opening celebration on August 4, 2018. The new Cultural Center will house not only the Museum and its archives, but also a 3D printing lab, green screens, classrooms, an Indian Marketplace, gift shop, and café. Warmer months promise even more fun, with an amphitheater, working artists, a longhouse exhibit that you can stay in, and a walkable wetland Medicine Garden. This impressive new space will be visible from I-86 and opposite the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino. In fact, over 200 rooms at the Resort will have an amazing view of the impressive design and architecture of the Cultural Center. The Museum will offer spring and fall lecture series, host live entertainment throughout the summer, offer day camps for kids on school breaks, and display over 85,000 artifacts. The café will feature traditional Native American foods like corn wheels. Tours can be arranged for small or large groups, who will enjoy access to WiFi, ample parking, and restroom access.
At the celebration, there will be traditional crafters and vendors, along with tours. There will be a Seneca-Iroquois Living Culture Village for visitors to get an up close and in depth visiting experience of Seneca-Iroquois traditional history. To book a tour, please call 716-945-1760.
