NASH, EUGENE ARUS: Age 24 years. Enrolled at Dayton August 8, 1861, to serve three years, as private, Co. A, 44th New York; transferred to Co. H, September 19, 1861; promoted to sergeant, September 20, 1861; second lieutenant October 3, 1861; acting adjutant May 27, 1862 to October 28, 1862; wounded in action August 30, 1862, at Second Bull Run, Va.; acting assistant inspector general of brigade from March 1, 1863 to March 1, 1864; promoted captain of Co. D, November 30, 1863; wounded in action May 30, 1864, at Bethesda Church, Va.; mustered out with company October 11, 1864. Commissioned lieutenant colonel, 23rd U.S. Colored Troops, but unable to muster on account of wounds. A History of the Forty-Fourth Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry.
